This film was not the one he intended to make. “I spent the majority of the class writing a different short that featured five characters,” Mason explains. “With only a week and a half until the deadline, I was told that I had to cut the amount of actors down to one. Thus, Sidewalker, was born."
The finished film, starring Ila Splawn in her first ever film role, is a whimsical and enchanting recap on 2020 from a child's point of view, and was an audience favorite when it screened at Arkansas Shorts - a night of short film in early 2021.

Low Key Arts is pleased to announce the rescheduled 17th annual VALLEY OF THE VAPORS INDEPENDENT MUSIC FESTIVAL taking place Friday and Saturday October 1-2, 2021 at Cedar Glades Park in Hot Springs, AR.
VOV was canceled in March 2020, and again in March 2021 due to coronavirus. Low Key Arts was also forced to cancel the Hot Water Hills Music & Arts Festival in 2020 for the same reason.
“As things began re-opening this year,” explains Low Key Arts executive director, Sonny Kay, “our board of directors and I made the decision to forego our annual Hot Water Hills Music & Arts Festival this fall, in favor of producing a reimagined version of VOV that would really feel like something special. Almost a hybrid of the two events, but musically very much VOV. Taking the festival outdoors this year just feels right. Cedar Glades has so many incredible things to offer. We want to create an unforgettable music festival experience that takes advantage of Hot Springs' scenic surroundings and that builds on something people know and love."
For the first time in its history, the festival will include camping, as well as movies screened under the stars, hiking, disc golf, rock wall climbing, vendors, Northwoods Trails scavenger hunt, art installations, kids activites, and more! It is open to all ages. Confirmed performers include PSYCHIC GRAVEYARD (Providence, RI), HOLY WAVE (Austin, TX), DEEPER (Chicago, IL), OHMME (Chicago, IL), ESME PATTERSON (Denver, CO), DENDRONS (Chicago), WE ARE THE ASTEROID (Austin, TX), VARIOUS BLONDE (Kansas City, MO), ESTEREOMANCE (Juarez, MX/El Paso, TX), and CRUSH DIAMOND (Houma, LA).
